Arts Council Malta held the Co-Production Roadmap Masterclass for Maltese producers and filmmakers, drawing 28 applications from the sector. The masterclass was led by Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine, founder of The Copro Agency, who brings international experience in co-production, audiovisual law, business affairs, project development, and international legal frameworks. Sessions covered legal and financial frameworks, official and non-official co-productions, international financing sources, collaborative and transparent partnerships, cultural awareness, ethical practice, and the negotiation of key terms.
Participants also received one-to-one consultations offering tailored feedback on their individual projects. Lyona Xuereb Gatt, Head of the Domestic Film Development & Strategy Unit at Arts Council Malta, said the initiative responded directly to needs identified through earlier events and consultations. "Through our previous events and consultations, we identified a significant demand for guidance on co-productions.
We received many inquiries and noticed that there were still several misconceptions and uncertainties about the process — what co-production entails, how it works in practice, and how producers can successfully navigate it. This is precisely why we decided to develop the Co-Production Roadmap: to provide clarity, practical guidance, and a structured pathway for filmmakers and producers looking to explore co-production opportunities," she said.
Arts Council Malta is now accepting applications for its upcoming Audience Design workshops, which will take place in Valletta across one of two two-day sessions: 6–7 October 2026 or 8–9 October 2026. Audience design consultant Síle Culley will lead the sessions. The workshops are intended to support selected Maltese production companies in identifying potential audiences, assessing market appeal, and developing communication strategies for feature-length projects currently in development.
Eligible applicants are Maltese production companies that received Development funding in 2024 or 2025 and are working on a feature-length project intended for the local market or for co-production. Applications close on Monday, 10 August 2026.
