Sliema has one of the busiest live music calendars in Malta. The JazzKlabb series at 45 Howard Street hosts ticketed jazz concerts most months, from Latin quartets to American Songbook evenings, while the free Terrace Tunes sessions run on Thursday evenings through summer, covering everything from folk punk to vinyl DJ sets. For bigger concerts, Teatru Salesjan stages its annual Rock Series spotlighting Malta's alternative scene, and one-off shows take over Tigné Point. No event on? Sliema keeps you busy regardless. Walk the promenade from the Ferries towards St Julian's — Malta's most popular seafront stroll. Swim at the rocky beaches along Tower Road, including the sheltered stretch at Fond Għadir. Catch a boat trip from Sliema Ferries to Comino's Blue Lagoon, the Blue Grotto, or a harbour cruise around Valletta. Explore Tigné Point for shopping and views across Marsamxett Harbour, or take the ferry to Valletta itself in about five minutes. For something more active, Sliema is a hub for diving, and coastal hiking meetups leave from the Ferries most Sundays.
For fun activities in Sliema aimed at adults, evenings mean wine by the sea at Fond Għadir, sunset boat parties with open bars, and the bar scene along the Strand and into St Julian's next door.
Some events return to Sliema every year, so you can plan around them. The Sliema Arts Festival runs each July along the promenade — several evenings of open-air performances, plus the Selfmade Market with dozens of local artisan stalls. Carnival reaches Sliema each February, when Malta's carnival week brings costumed parades and family events across the island; the main parades are in Valletta, a short ferry ride away, with local activity in Sliema itself.
In autumn, the TS Rock Series at Teatru Salesjan runs a multi-part concert programme through late November, and the JazzKlabb season at Howard Street runs roughly monthly from spring through December. Check the listings above for the current dates.
