A man caught on camera removing a door knocker from a blue front door on Dingli Street in Sliema has been identified after Mayor John Pillow posted the footage on Facebook and Instagram seeking public help. The footage, originally provided by Pillow, shows the man walking up to the door, touching one knocker, then wrenching off a second.

A police report had been filed before Pillow made his appeal. He wrote on Facebook: "If anyone recognises this person or has any information regarding this incident, please contact me privately." The post drew numerous responses that led to the man's identification.

Police are now handling the case. Pillow said messages from the public included information suggesting the identified man has other ongoing court cases. That claim is relayed second-hand through the mayor and has not been corroborated by police or court records.

Police are continuing to work on the matter following the identification.
