Sliema Mayor John Pillow has publicly thanked local resident Esther for clearing litter from Qui-Si-Sana beach each morning on her own initiative. He has also announced plans for a community clean-up along the shoreline between Exiles and Qui-Si-Sana in the coming weeks. Esther visits the beach daily to collect cigarette butts and rubbish left by beachgoers from the previous day.
Video footage shared by Mayor Pillow shows her carrying a plastic shopping bag already full of collected waste whilst continuing to pick up more. She does this without formal backing or organisation. Mayor Pillow highlighted Esther's efforts as a positive example for the Sliema locality and thanked her for her contribution to the community.
The planned clean-up will stretch from Exiles to Qui-Si-Sana, with the mayor saying it would take place within the coming weeks. No confirmed date or further organisational details have been published. Members of the public are encouraged to take part alongside Esther.
