San Ġiljan ASC has condemned supporters who threw objects at match officials at the end of Wednesday's Summer Championship water polo match against Sliema, which the club lost 19–18. Objects were thrown from the stands. The flashpoint came in the final moments when Spanish player Alberto Barroso scored a penalty for Sliema that proved decisive.

The penalty award drew fierce protests from San Ġiljan supporters positioned directly above the officials. As the final whistle sounded, objects were thrown from the stands. In a statement, the club said: "The Club strongly condemns the unacceptable behaviour seen at the end of today's match, where objects were thrown from the stands."

San Ġiljan acknowledged the emotional context: "While we acknowledge the great frustration felt by our supporters, particularly in light of a series of decisions that have gone against the Club recently, there can be no justification for actions that compromise the safety and integrity of the game." The club stated that its values include respect for match officials, opponents and the rules of the game and that those values must hold even when decisions are considered unjust or unfavourable.

The club distinguished between those responsible and its wider supporter base, thanking "the great majority of our supporters who continue to back the team with passion and responsibility" and urging all fans to ensure their support "always reflects the club's values." San Ġiljan said it will cooperate with authorities to identify those involved and take appropriate action.
