An 84-year-old woman from Ħamrun has died after being hit by a light truck in Triq Ċensu Borg on Sunday morning, the Malta Police Force confirmed on Tuesday, Newsbook reported.
The collision happened at around 8.30am while she was passing through the street. Police said the vehicle was being driven by a 67-year-old man from Rabat. The woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital with critical injuries and remained in a critical condition before dying two days later.
Inquiry and investigation
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has opened a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
Earlier reporting had described the woman as critically injured after the Sunday collision; Tuesday's police confirmation turns that case into a fatal road death now before both the criminal investigation and the magisterial process. Neither Newsbook nor the police statement published in that coverage named the victim or the driver beyond age and locality.
