Sliema Ferry services extended into late with additional summer trips

Malta is extending ferry services into late evening this summer, with additional trips across several routes. Sustainable Mobility Minister Chris Bonett announced the new timetable, which runs until 31 October, citing growing demand for ferry travel. The harbour ferries on the Sliema–Valletta and Cospicua–Valletta routes will each gain three additional trips.

Fast ferries connecting Valletta, Sliema and Buġibba with Mġarr in Gozo will gain two extra departures from Valletta and two from Sliema and Buġibba. New late-night departures will leave at 10:45pm and 11:45pm. A final sailing at 12:45am arrives at Mġarr at 1:30am, running on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.

The Sliema–Buġibba–Gozo fast ferry route, launched in May, carried around 250,000 passengers in its first three months. The government said the winter timetable, following after October, will also include extra journeys. A new ferry link between Marsaskala and Valletta is also being planned, pending completion of infrastructure works on the Marsaskala quay and ferry terminal.

The expanded services form part of the government's Malta in Motion transport plan, which aims to offer people a practical alternative to travelling by private car.
