Home Affairs and Security Minister Glenn Bedingfield addressed the Malta Police Force at the annual Police Day ceremony on or around 11 July 2026, reaffirming the government's commitment to modern infrastructure, advanced operational capabilities and officer wellbeing. Cardinal Mario Grech celebrated Holy Mass and delivered a reflection on compassion and humanity in policing, which Bedingfield thanked him for.
Bedingfield singled out digital threats, fraud, social media harassment, transnational criminal syndicates and algorithmic misuse as defining challenges facing the Force. Meeting these threats requires continued investment in specialised training, advanced capabilities and physical infrastructure. He grounded his case in people: "The Force's greatest strength lies in the professionalism, integrity and dedication of its members."
Bedingfield placed his remarks within a rule-of-law frame, asserting that "security, public order and the rule of law should never be taken for granted" and describing strong public order as essential to quality of life for all residents. He stressed international cooperation as necessary to tackle cross-border threats. The address did not disclose specific budget allocations, infrastructure projects, named support structures for officer wellbeing or new training programmes.
