Government gathering data on noise and disorder in Sliema

The Maltese Government has yet to produce statistics on noise complaints, anti-social behaviour and disorder in Swieqi, St Julian's and Sliema, with Minister Glenn Bedingfield saying data is still being gathered. Nationalist MP Graham Bencini submitted parliamentary questions to Bedingfield, the Minister for Home Affairs and Security, seeking figures covering 2024, 2025 and 2026 to the present date.

Bencini sought figures on excessive noise, fighting and public disorder reported in the three localities and how many reports led to prosecutions or other legal action. He also asked how many fines had been issued for noise and anti-social behaviour in those areas, their total value and how many had been paid. Bencini further asked whether police had identified hotspots where problems occur regularly and what steps had been taken to strengthen police presence there.

He also asked what obligations owners and managers of tourist accommodation have when guests are repeatedly reported for noise or disorder. Bedingfield replied that the information is being collected and will be provided to Parliament at a later sitting. The minister did not state when that sitting would take place.
