Sliema council budgets €1.66 m income for financial year 2026
Sliema Local Council's signed 2026 annual budget plans €1,658,940 in income and €1,637,525 in spending, projecting a €21,415 surplus, with operations and community works the largest outlays.

Sliema Local Council has published its signed Annual Budget for Financial Year 2026. The Overview and Summary page carries the signatures of Mayor John Pillow and Executive Secretary Pierre Paul Portelli. The document was uploaded to the council site in March 2026, ahead of the year-end 2025 Quarter 4 financial report.
The Statement of Income and Expenditure budgets total income of €1,658,940 and total expenditure of €1,637,525, for a projected surplus of €21,415. That income figure is €46,583 higher than the €1,612,357 income line in the 2025 annual budget. The increase is entirely from central government funding, budgeted at €1,341,940 for 2026 (€1,321,940 under section 55 of Cap. 363 and €20,000 under section 58). Bye-law income is held at €260,000 (€225,000 from permits and €35,000 from community services), Local Enforcement System income at €7,000, and other contributions at €50,000.
On spending, personal emoluments are budgeted at €294,114, down €23,308 on the 2025 budget total of €317,422, with employees' salaries and wages set at €201,512 and the mayor's allowance at €22,055. Operations and maintenance rise to €1,080,910, and administration to €178,560. Within operations, the largest 2026 lines include community spending at €257,000, road and street cleaning at €220,000, repairs and upkeep at €170,000, parks and gardens cleaning and maintenance at €100,000, contract and project management at €71,500, street lighting at €66,000, and bulky refuse collection at €58,410.
The cash budget projects €1,658,940 of inflows and €1,553,584 of outflows, an annual cash surplus of €105,356, lifting the carried cash balance from €1,998,046 to €2,103,402. The Financial Situation Indicator is budgeted at 73%. Net assets and retained funds are projected at €1,871,000 by 31 December 2026.
