Traffic police officers reunite with man they rescued in Sliema

Police Constables K. Scicluna (PC2186) and R. Tonna (PC1113) of the Traffic Police Unit were on routine patrol in Sliema on 6 May 2026 when passers-by flagged them down, Talk.mt reported.

As soon as they left their vehicle, the officers saw a person trapped between a car and a truck. Without delay, Scicluna and Tonna removed their belts, wrapped them around Maurice Galea's legs and tightened them to stem the bleeding.

Reunion at Mater Dei

A few days before Talk.mt published its account on 19 July 2026, the same constables met Galea again at Mater Dei Hospital – the first time they had seen him face to face after the rescue.

Galea recognised them immediately, thanked them for their intervention and told them that, without that speed of response, he could have lost his life.

Talk.mt did not name the exact street of the May collision. The report establishes the patrol stop, the improvised tourniquet with the officers' belts, and Galea's later thanks at Mater Dei.
