Sliema ASC have appointed Quim Colet as Technical Director and Men's Senior Team Coach for the 2026 Summer Championship, bringing a highly credentialled coaching figure to what the club describes as Malta's most successful water polo side. Colet was serving as coach of CN Sabadell at the time of the announcement. The club has not stated whether that role ends upon his taking up the Sliema position or continues alongside it.
Before Sabadell, he coached the Spanish Men's National team across two Olympic Games — a record that places him among a small group of coaches to have led a top-tier programme through consecutive Olympic cycles. Sliema ASC have given Colet a dual title rather than a head coaching role alone. As Technical Director, he carries responsibility for areas beyond match tactics and immediate competition preparation — squad architecture, programme structure, and the technical standards the club sets heading into the championship.
For a club carrying the expectations that come with being Malta's most decorated water polo side, the appointment signals clear intent for the 2026 Summer Championship. Attracting a coach with Colet's Olympic record to a domestic competition outside water polo's traditional European strongholds is not routine, and the championship will be the first competitive test of the arrangement.
