Naomi Cachia will serve as Government Whip for the incoming legislature following her reappointment to the role, while Fleur Abela has been named as Deputy Whip. Both appointments were confirmed at the first meeting of the Labour Parliamentary Group since the general election, a session Prime Minister Robert Abela also opened and addressed. The Government Whip coordinates parliamentary business and maintains communication between government MPs and the Cabinet.

In a video shared online, Cachia said she was honoured by the trust placed in her by Abela and her parliamentary colleagues, and committed to delivering on the mandate given by the Maltese and Gozitan people. Abela used the meeting to set a firm pace for the new legislature. He told MPs that the first 100 days would serve as a clear signal that election promises would be kept, adding that Cabinet had already begun discussing measures to bring greater peace of mind to different sectors of society.

He framed the legislative agenda around the Labour Party's electoral manifesto, 'Int Malta', which contains more than 1,000 proposals. Among the commitments he highlighted were planned legislation to strengthen equality, reforms connected to IVF, and continued work on the Malta Vision 2050 strategy, which centres on quality of life and family wellbeing. He also pointed to the introduction of a wellbeing index, a key proposal in the manifesto, as part of that longer-term direction.

Parliament is set to officially open on Saturday.
