Carmen Vella, a Sliema-born singer and cabaret entertainer who became one of Malta's most recognisable performers, has died at age 79. Born on 16 February 1947, Vella built a career spanning cabaret, musical theatre, television, and recording across several decades. She first established herself on the cabaret circuit of the 1960s and 1970s, drawing consistent crowds during the height of Malta's live entertainment culture.

Vella performed as a soubrette in musical theatre productions at Teatru Manoel, notably playing Cincilla in the operetta Il Paese dei Campanelli. Television brought her to the widest local audience through regular appearances on Teenbeat – The Oscar Lucas Show, Carusel, and Epoka. Her recording work included the songs X'Ħajja Din' and Bħalek M'Hawnx, a duet with her brother Martin Vella, and the LP Merħba.

She also presented a music festival in Italy and appeared on RAI, Italy's national broadcaster — a distinction described as a first for a professional Maltese singer. Her funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, 7 July, at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacro Cuor Church in Sliema.
