The band The Busker will stage DROGI, an original music-theatre show about the pursuit of happiness, at Teatru Salesjan in Sliema on Saturday 14 November.
The band The Busker will stage DROGI, an original music-theatre production, at Teatru Salesjan in Sliema on Saturday 14 November, Lovin Malta reported on 11 October. Doors open at 7.30pm and the performance is due to start at 8.30pm.
Directed by Sean Borg, the show combines live music, theatre, humour and social satire. It is set in a fictional world going through a "Dopamine Drought", in which a corporation called B-Corp has invented the "Dopa-Meter", a device that claims to measure a person's dopamine levels and, with them, their happiness.
The story follows three characters and the different "highs" people chase in everyday life, from relationships and success to validation, attention, consumption and constant stimulation. Despite its deliberately provocative title, the production is not about recreational drugs, according to the report: it asks whether the things people keep pursuing for pleasure and fulfilment can become their own personal "drugs".
The show will feature music from the band's upcoming album, Something in My Head, in a story that is partly autobiographical and partly fictional.
